I consider myself an in progress reformed fattie. I've pretty much been fat my whole life. The last time I wore a bikini, I was 3. Seriously. My Grandparents (you'll hear tons more about them later) have a picture of it in their kitchen. So I'm not really sure how exactly my weight was allowed to get so out of control, but it was. And it did. When I was a kid, I was active. I played outside way more than inside, I played softball for 12 years and danced ballet, tap and jazz for 16 years. I also played basketball, kickball and just about every other ball out there (no dirty thoughts!!)
So I guess my fattie status came from food. I seriously love food. I love what you can do with it, I love what you can make from it, I love that you can brighten someone's day with home cooked goodness. Unfortunately all that food I'm so enamored with is sweet and buttery and salty and crunchy and cheesy and delicious and NOT HEALTHY. So now I'm on a quest to teach myself to be enamored with all the good foods that I used to love to fatten up. I'm following the glycemic index, which yes is a diet, but for me it's way more of a way of life. Plus, in the books they tell me I can cheat and it's okay (every once in awhile). So I'm doing pretty good. Although my hubs doesn't feel so strongly about it. But god bless him, he's supportive and following along when he has to.
Unfortunately, just eating healthy isn't enough if I want my arms to stop flapping when I wave hi to someone. So, we've also hit the gym. We started out at our local community center, which turned out to be overpriced and underwhelming, so now we go to Gold's Gym. Which is pretty cheap and super well stocked and INTIMIDATING!! Like, seriously intimidating. Like I dawdled around at work for like 25 minutes today just to keep from having to go. But then I got my butt in gear and headed over for Zumba class, and it was all good.
Well, I think this is a really long post for a blog, so that's about all I have to say. I'm off to make one of our favorite GI Diet meals, garlic shrimp with whole wheat angel hair pasta. If I don't explode it like I exploded our black bean brownies last week, I'll take some pictures and post the recipe. If I explode it again (seriously, it exploded, we are still finding pieces of glass), I'll probably be looking for a new place to live because the poor hubs can only take so much. Tata for now people!
Love it and you! <3 -A
